Masese CDC Vision:
Transforming life in Jesus’ name
Masese CDC Mission:
To develop capacity and abilities among children using a holistic approach to become responsible and committed Christian adults.
Many of the children of the Masese CDC have sponsors from around the world. These are caring people that have contributed to help provide for these wonderful children. From these sponsorships, the children receive school fees and other gifts throughout the year, as well as the love they feel from such a generous act.
The Child Development Sponsorship Program (CDSP), which is the cornerstone of Masese CDC’s work, seeks to achieve four outcomes in the life of each child:
1. The child demonstrates commitment to the lordship of Jesus Christ
2. The child chooses good health practices and is physically healthy
3. The child exhibits motivation and skills to be economically self-supporting
4. The child interacts with other people in a healthy and compassionate manner
These are in line with the basic rights that the Masese CDC believes that all children have, in accordance with the United Nations’ International Rights of Children. These include the right to:
1. A name
2. Belonging
3. Worship
4. Education to develop to their full potential
5. Equality
6. Basic Needs
7. Leisure and Participation
8. Be loved, nurtured, and understood
9. Be respected
10. Be protected from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and cruelty
11. Live in a safe and healthy environment
12. Live in peace and harmony
Every Saturday, the Masese Child Development Center hosts 256 children between the ages of 3 and 22 at their compound. The children arrive between 7am and 8am and devotion begins at 8. Following devotion, the children participate in a health parade and then begin their morning lessons at 915. The children receive a break at 1045, during which they play board games or football in the yard. Lessons resume at 1130 and then are followed by lunch a 1pm. They continue lessons after lunch, followed by a co-curricular activity (for example, going out into the community in a cleanup activity). The day wraps up around 4pm and the caregivers come to pick up their children after a final assembly and prayer. The children love the Center Days and learn so much from their lessons while praising God and building friendships with the other children.
The Masese CDC has an extensive library for the children to use, thanks to the work of a past intern, named Heather Victorson. There are books for all age groups so that students can have access to such a great selection of books even on the weekends when they leave school.
The Masese CDC also provides services for the caregivers in efforts to promote their businesses. Forming now is a microfinance project that will provide business skills training and small loans for those caregivers that go through the training.
The Masese CDC has a dedicated staff that works during the week and on Saturdays to provide for and develop these children and their families.
